MILAN – Italian eyewear manufacturer Safilo Group said on Monday that Luca Dalla Zanna is joining the company as the firm’s Brazil country manager.

Dalla Zanna will replace Fernanda Calvet and will report directly to Andrea Busato, Safilo Latin America vice president.

Dalla Zanna is an eyewear industry veteran having worked in the Latin American market for companies including Luxottica and most recently Marchon Eyewear, where he has served as the managing director of its Brazilian subsidiary for seven years.

“Luca Dalla Zanna’s new appointment shows once again Safilo’s commitment to consolidating the Latin America organization in order to further grow in the region,” said Busato.

As reported, over the last year, the company has inked deals to expand its reach in the area, specifically in Paraguay and Colombia, where it partnered with local distributors Cepal and Kronotime, respectively.

As reported last week, Safilo Group posted a weak first-half performance. In the six months ended June 30, the adjusted net loss totaled 10.4 million euros, compared with a net loss of 6.6 million euros in the first half of 2017, and sales registered a 10 percent decrease to 492.2 million euros, dented especially by continued weakness in the U.S. and in Europe.

Safilo’s eyewear collections are designed and manufactured for a range of labels, including Dior, Fendi, Givenchy, Max Mara, Marc Jacobs, Polaroid and Carrera and Tommy Hilfiger, among others.
