MILAN — To celebrate its 80th anniversary in 2014, Safilo Group will launch a capsule collection designed by industrial designer Marc Newson for the Safilo brand.


The Safilo by Marc Newson collection will include both optical frames and sunglasses and will bow next spring.


“Marc’s exceptional stylistic contribution will result in the creation of a unique collection with a one-of-a-kind style,” said Roberto Vedovotto, chief executive officer of the group. “Design is a key element in the entire value chain of our products and the opportunity presented from undertaking such a high level collaboration allows us to express our vision and sensitivity for design at its very best.”

In addition to Safilo and other owned brands such as Carrera and Polaroid, the Italian eyewear firm manufactures and distributes eyewear for a number of international labels, including Alexander McQueen, Banana Republic, Bottega Veneta, Gucci, JLO by Jennifer Lopez, Jimmy Choo, Juicy Couture, Kate Spade, Liz Claiborne, Max Mara, Saint Laurent, and Tommy Hilfiger.
