Saks Inc. named Michael Burgess president of Saks Direct, reporting to Denise Incandela, executive vice president and chief marketing officer.

Incandela previously also held the title of president of Saks Direct.
Burgess, who starts at Saks on May 7, was executive vice president of the consumer division of FTD, the florist, which is owned by United Online Inc. He led merchandising, marketing, consumer information technology and other functions of the FTD North America business. “His experience as a business operator in strategically growing online organizations makes him a great fit for this important role,” said Saks chairman and chief executive officer Stephen I. Sadove.
Added Incandela: “His deep expertise in the digital space is impressive, and his strong leadership skills, particularly his experience in attracting and retaining exceptional associates and building high-performance cultures, will make him an ideal president of Saks Direct.”
As head of Saks Direct, Burgess will be in charge of Saks’ online business, overseeing all operations including merchandising, marketing and the call center. The company has been seeing robust gains online and building up distribution fulfillment capacity.
Before FTD, Burgess was vice president and general manager of the Internet business of Teleflora LLC, and before that he held executive positions with Better Life Media Inc., Selby Venture Partners, ForRetail and Crossworlds Software Inc. He began his career at McKinsey & Co., where he led teams providing strategic management services to Global 500 companies.
