Shiseido has named Louis Desazars president and chief executive officer of the Shiseido Europe Region and president and ceo of Beauté Prestige International, Shiseido’s designer fragrance arm.
Desazars’ new appointments — which include oversight of the company’s operations in Africa and the Middle East as well as Europe — will be effective Sept. 1. Desazars will report to Masahiko Uotani, president and ceo of Shiseido Co. Ltd., and will relocate to Paris. Desazars succeeds Remy Gomez in the BPI role; a spokeswoman said Gomez retired in March.
Desazars, who has served as president and ceo of Nars Cosmetics since 2008, will be succeeded in the president role by Barbara Calcagni, currently senior vice president of global marketing for Nars.
The moves are part of Shiseido’s mid- to long-term strategy, Vision 2020, under which a regional headquarters system is to be introduced in six regions, including Europe. The intent is to allow accelerated decision-making and product development in each region. In his new role, Desazars will oversee future strategy for Shiseido in Europe, with the goals of achieving substantial brand growth and developing new markets in Africa and the Middle East. Concurrently, as president and ceo of Beauté Prestige International, he will direct the global strategy of the group’s designer fragrance portfolio.
