Steve Woodside, a veteran of sourcing operations at VF Corp. and Nike Inc., has joined Columbia Sportswear Co. as vice president of global manufacturing, a new post.
Woodside, who will report to Bryan Timm, chief operating officer of the Portland, Ore.-based outerwear and sportswear firm, was most recently vice president of global footwear for VF Corp., a Hong Kong-based position in which he was responsible for oversight of sourcing and manufacturing.
Prior to that, he spent 23 years with Nike, working in assignments in Taiwan, Indonesia, Vietnam, China and Hong Kong, overseeing production of footwear and apparel at different points during his tenure and executing the adoption of lean manufacturing processes with Nike’s contract manufacturing partners.
Columbia also appointed Stuart Redsun to the new post of chief marketing officer, effective Oct. 6. A veteran of organizations including Under Armour, Nike, Sony and Motorola, he will be responsible for the development and execution of marketing programs for the Columbia, Sorel and Montrail brands. He will report to Tim Boyle, president and chief executive officer of Columbia.
Columbia said the appointments were made in anticipation of the pending retirements of Dan Hanson and Patrick Werner, vice presidents of global marketing and global apparel, respectively.
“Dan and Patrick have been great leaders at Columbia Sportswear over the past 25 years and 10 years, respectively,” said Boyle. “They have each been instrumental in the substantial growth of the business over those time periods, including our development and introduction of numerous market-altering innovations.”
Columbia added the Prana brand to its portfolio upon the June consummation of its purchase of the activewear company from Steelpoint Capital Partners for $190 million in cash.
