The Academy of Art University has named Simon Ungless as executive director of its School of Fashion. Ungless is succeeding Gladys Perint Palmer, who is taking on the newly created position of executive vice president of artistic development at the San Francisco-based university. The appointments are effective Friday.
Previously, Perint Palmer worked as executive director of the School of Fashion for 20 years. Created with the goal of raising the school’s international profile, Perint Palmer’s new role will assume a more broad oversight of the entire university.
Ungless is currently overseeing the development of the school’s spring collection that will be shown Sept. 6 at New York’s Lincoln Center during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Academy of Art University said there is no one in line to replace Ungless as director of the school of fashion when he assumes his new role.
