LONDON — Yoox Net-a-Porter Group has appointed Emma Mortimer to lead The Outnet as managing director.
In her new role, Mortimer will oversee the company’s entire ecosystem, which consists of buying, merchandising, sales, marketing and creative teams. She will report to Alessandra Rossi, president, off-season at YNAP.
Mortimer is returning to the company, having previously worked at Net-a-porter Group from 2009 to 2015 as global head of studio production and customer care. She had also led The Outnet in an interim capacity.
She later became a consultant for Net’s competitor Matchesfashion.com, spearheaded the launch of the Modist, a new e-tailer specializing in modest fashion. She also served as fashion specialist for the British Government’s Department for International Trade.
“With her broad business knowledge across luxury e-commerce and her extensive expertise in customer experience, Emma is the ideal candidate to drive the international growth of The Outnet, enabled by our new technology and logistics platform,” said Rossi.
The retailer has been looking to expand internationally, with launches in the Middle East and Japan having taken place in April.
According to the group’s latest earnings, released earlier this month, its off-season line, which includes Yoox and the Outnet, saw a 4.6 percent decrease in sales, registering 183.3 million euros.
“This performance reflects the decrease in The Outnet customer retention rate mainly due to low product availability in the fourth quarter, as well as the impact of a pricing strategy designed to mitigate the severe currency headwinds on Yoox,” the company said.
