PARIS — Walgreens Boots Alliance signaled senior management changes on Thursday.
Alex Gourlay, executive vice president of Walgreens Boots Alliance and president of Walgreens, and Ornella Barra, executive vice president of Walgreens Boots Alliance and president and chief executive of global wholesale and international retail, have been appointed co-chief operating officers “in order to provide even greater focus and collaboration, and further streamline the management of the company’s global operations,” the company said.
In his new job, Gourlay will oversee Walgreens and Boots. On top of her current responsibilities, Barra is to supervise global brands, human resources and other business services.
Ken Murphy becomes executive vice president of Walgreens Boots Alliance and chief commercial officer and president of global brands. He and Kathleen Wilson-Thompson, executive vice president and global chief human resources officer, are to report to Barra.
Simon Roberts, executive vice president of Walgreens Boots Alliance and president of Boots is to leave the company in July to pursue other opportunities.
Elizabeth Fagan, currently senior vice president and managing director of international retail of Boots, has been named senior vice president and managing director of Boots.
Jim Skinner, Walgreens Boots Alliance executive chairman, said the appointments would “allow us to further enhance operating performance, while developing our company for the longer term.”
The new executive nominations come 18 months after the integration of Walgreens and Boots.
Walgreens Boots Alliance spans banners such as Walgreens, Duane Reade, Boots and Alliance Healthcare, which sell everything from beauty products to medicines.
The group employs more than 370,000 people and is in over 25 countries.
Its beauty product portfolio includes the No7, Botanics, Liz Earle and Soap & Glory brands.
