World Tricot, a former knitwear supplier to Chanel, said Tuesday it would appeal a recent ruling by the French commercial court that cleared Chanel of counterfeit allegations. On Friday, World Tricot was ordered to pay Chanel 200,002 euros, or about $294,500 at current exchange, for “public disparagement” for accusations that Chanel copied one of its crochet designs. Chanel, in turn, was ordered to pay World Tricot 400,000 euros, or about $589,000, for contract termination that placed its manufacturing business in jeopardy.
