MILAN — A special unit of Italy’s Guardia di Finanza police force has seized 410 Web sites selling counterfeit fashion goods, according to media reports.

During two separate investigations, hundreds of Web sites offering counterfeit product of brands including Chanel, Fendi, Gucci, Bulgari and Rolex that were discounted by 30 to 40 percent were identified, along with 15 suspects that are believed to have actively participated in the scam.

Most of the sites are registered abroad but are also located on Italian servers, which has led to searches in cities including Naples, Milan, Venice and Palermo.
In 2014 alone the Guardia di Finanza seized counterfeit products valued at about 3 billion euros, or $3.9 billion at average exchange rate.
