MILAN — Italian paparazzo Fabrizio Pensa, who was among the conspirators accused of blackmailing Lapo Elkann, has been sentenced to prison.
Judge Raffaele Martorelli handed Pensa a sentence of three years and eight months after having been convicted of extortion. In addition, Pensa will have to pay Elkann 15,000 euros, or $15,961 at current exchange, in damages, as well as a fine of 4,000 euros, or $4,256.
Pensa’s sentence follows the conviction and jail sentences of Enrico and Giovanni Bellavista. The brothers were also found guilty of extortion against Elkann, who appears in a video they shot about an year ago in which Italia Independent’s founder was allegedly under the influence of drugs and behaving in a “compromising” manner. While Elkann initially paid them off to suppress the video, he later reported the conspirators to police.
