HL LA was “properly terminated” by Jo Charnuis Inc. for breach and nonperformance, an attorney for Jo Charnuis and its principal, Cho Cheng, claimed Monday. As reported Monday, HL LA and Jo Charnuis have entered arbitration, with HL LA alleging that it is owed at least $80,227 in unpaid retainer service fees by Jo Charnuis. Responding to the allegations, Elaine Papas, of the law offices of Elaine D. Papas, who represents Jo Charnuis and Cheng, said, “The allegations by HL are absolutely false. HL was properly terminated by Cho Cheng for breach and nonperformance….There was no basis of action for their original claim.” Papas added that HL offered no communication until recently, when Cheng’s collection launched during New York Fashion Week.
