Even before the historic Supreme Court decision Friday on same-sex marriage, Equinox was showing its support of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered, Questioning and Allied community.
The sports club company has partnered with Los Angeles-based artist David Flores to create interactive murals on the streets in New York, London and San Francisco. The murals, which will stay in place through mid-July, are part of a Powered by Pride initiative and center around the topic of universal love. Equinox is encouraging members and staff to provide quotes about the topic on social media using a Powered by Pride hashtag.
“Art is most powerful when delivering a social message,” said Flores. “As an artist, I am a big supporter of self-expression and the LGBTQA community. Everyone deserves to be proud of who they are.”
For every hashtag, Equinox will donate $1 to the Hetrick-Martin Institute, which works with LGBTQA youth, and The Pilion Trust, an organization that provides a haven for those struggling with their sexuality and gender identities.
The murals are located at North 13th Street and Wythe Avenue in Williamsburg, Brooklyn; on Berwick Street in London, and at 923 Market Street in San Francisco.
