DOILLON SPOTLIGHTED IN J BRAND ADS: J Brand‘s fall ad campaign, shot by Matteo Montanari, focuses on the girl, the jean and the attitude. Featuring French singer and songwriter Lou Doillon, the ads are designed to show that she wears the denim, the clothes do not wear her.
“Our girl is an understated, intriguing, talented, powerful, intelligent beauty,” said Laura Pizzarelli, vice president of creative and marketing at J Brand. “Lou Doillon possesses all of the qualities — not a typical model but rather a singer and songwriter, fine artist and a mother.” She described Doillon as “one of the most authentic women we have ever met who exudes cool with as much power as she exudes kindness.”
Doillon, 34, is the daughter of director Jacques Doillon and British actress and singer Jane Birkin. Her half-sister is actress-singer Charlotte Gainsbourg, daughter of French musician Serge Gainsbourg. Doillon’s debut album, “Places,” released in 2012, went double platinum in France and led to her win of Best Female Artist at the Victoires de la Musiques awards, the French Grammys.
J Brand’s ad campaign, shot at Jack Studios in New York, will run as spreads featuring close-ups of Doillon in the jeans, leather motorcycle jackets, shirts and sweaters. Ads will run in the September issues of various magazines.
J Brand’s fall collection, which revived denim hits from the Nineties, features high-rise jeans, tight cropped flares and slim, body-shaping denim. There are also motorcycle-inspired shapes with zipper details in tops and bottoms.
