Looks at the International Woolmark Prize Show 2017/2018.

The Woolmark Company has identified the members of the advisory council that will review this year’s applications for the International Woolmark Prize.

The 2018-19 Advisory Council encompasses: Tim Blanks of Business of Fashion; Jefferson Hack of Dazed Media; Christine Centenera of Vogue Australia and Wardrobe; Alison Veness and Rebecca Khoury of 10 & 10 Men; Catherine Baba, a stylist and costume designer; Sara Sozzani Maino of Vogue Italia; Gert Jonkers of Fantastic Man; Christiane Arp of Vogue Germany; Colin McDowell, a fashion journalist, and Tony Liu and Lindsey Schuyler of Diet Prada.

More than 300 emerging fashion designers from 46 countries applied for the prize and the TWC, along with the advisory council, reviewed every application and narrowed that list to 42 brands they believe showcase creativity, originality of design, innovation and brand recognition.

Eight of the brands on that list are American and include Brandon Maxwell; Nicole Heim and Chelsea Healy of Cienne; Andrea Tsao of Deveaux New York; Kirk Millar and Sam Linder of Linder; Willy Chavarria; Michael and Nicole Colovos of Colovos; Piotrek Panszczyk and Beckett Fogg of Area, and Robert Childs of Childs New York.

The 42 brands, which will showcase their capsule collections created from merino wool, will take part in one of three semifinal events that will be held in Hong Kong on July 5, London on July 10 and New York on July 12.

At that point, 12 finalists will be chosen and they will take part in the International Woolmark Prize final to be held at a still-undisclosed international fashion week in early 2019.

Finalists will each receive $54,000 to develop their capsule collections along with mentoring, business training and showcasing opportunities. The winners — one men’s wear and one women’s wear designer — will each receive $152,000 and guaranteed placement in some of the most important boutiques around the world. Additionally, the Innovation Award will be presented for the second year to one finalist who will receive $76,000.

All of the winners also receive sales support and mentoring for commercial opportunities.
