Spotlight: Premium

Some 60,000 visitors gather each season for the first look at the next trends in contemporary fashion at Premium. Presenting the spring-summer 2020 collections, Premium is the kickoff show highlighting contemporary and advanced fashion internationally. The show kicks off at Station-Berlin July 2 to 4.

As the first trade show of the season, Premium presents the newest industry trends for both men’s and women’s wear, tallying some 1,800 highly curated collections. In addition, the all-in-one access will grant attendees entrance into Seek, Show&Order, the FashionTech Berlin exhibition, as well as master classes and networking opportunities.

Channeling contemporary movements such as ethical fashion, brands such as Raeburn, from British designer Christopher Raeburn, will be on display among other innovative brands in fashion and technology.

Spotlight: White Milano

Since its inception, the White Show in Milan has served as a hub for standout women’s collections for an international fashion set. It’s also honed a vision of women’s wear that is bold, creative and emotional. This year, organizers of the event, which runs Sept. 19 to 22, said they’re adding “one more emotion to the September 2019 show: the clear and energetic style of the versatile illustrator and art director Lucia Emanuela Curzi, known as Lù.”

“She will mark some areas of the event with an installation curated exclusively for White in its elegant and extroverted sign, characterized by strong black ink lines and sudden flashes of color,” organizers said. “The protagonist of the creative scene in London and Milan, Lù has already created the symbolic image of the coming season for the trade show: an agile and sinuous leggy girl, which perfectly reflects the aesthetic and research philosophy of White Milano.”

Massimiliano Bizzi, founder of White, said Lù’s work “triggers a spark in the viewer, that’s why we called on him to embellish the September edition with his illustrations.” Bizzi said the installation will “add an extra emotion to the lounge area. Lucia’s expressive talent is definitely in line with our vision of women’s wear and therefore it seemed natural to us to tell his creativity at White.”

Lù works in London and Milan and collaborates with various brands, including Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Louboutin and Tiffany.

Spotlight: Micam Milano

Micam is described by event organizers “as the reference point for footwear industry operators from all over the world” and features five distinct show areas that include Luxury, Contemporary, Active, iKids and Cosmopolitan. Event organizers described the areas as being “designed to make the journey a unique visitor experience, through a multiplicity of collections that highlight tradition, innovation and design. More than 2,000 footwear collections will be showcased this year.

Celebrating its 88th edition, the show will highlight trends this season that are culled from various and diverse inspirations. “For the Spring/Summer 2020 season, footwear trends are inspired by three different themes: ‘designing emotion’ that interprets the interaction between technology, craftsmanship and man; ‘code create’ with a futuristic look, to unite physical worlds and digital; and ‘empower up,’ the young trend that goes back to the punk world or to culture modern African,” show organizers said.

In regard to colors, trend experts at the event said the “materials are of the highest quality and the color palette is as varied as ever: next to pastel colors are bright shades, while the bright shades contrast the tones more heated.”

With “designing emotion” for women and kids, event organizers said it dives deep into how technology and craftsmanship “can work together to create models that enhance imperfection and offer a deeper connection later the purchase.”

“The color palette introduces a range of pastel colors in a key contemporary, alongside warm brown tones in contrast to the typical nuances of the gems. For shoes, traditional techniques are associated with cutting-edge tools. Top quality materials are essential. The molded shapes play a key role in the creation of the main products.”

Spotlight: SpinExpo

SpinExpo celebrates its international sourcing prestige for yarns, fiber and knitwear in Paris, for its sixth session July 2 to 3; and Shanghai, for its 34th session Sept. 3 to 5. The Paris showing will be held at Carrousel du Louvre. In September, the show will return to Shanghai which previously marked an attendance of 12,671 visitors.

As previously reported in WWD, SpinExpo organizer Karine Van Tassel said, “The sourcing search today is quality, price, and creativity, at least in our exhibition.” Creativity means colorful and fashion-focused pop-ups and trends areas, which appeared at the 23rd Shanghai showing with both a “Cashmere Boutique” and “Knitwear Pavilion.” Movement is another facet of quality and innovation, as SpinExpo’s SpinActive area is dedicated to active, functional developments in circular knitting, both in yarns and machinery.

Green practices are of top-of-mind conversation when attracting international buyers, such as those who come to SpinExpo for the latest insights. Eco-friendly practices and innovative yarns will continue to drive the next iterations of SpinExpo alongside revealing the fall-winter 2020 trends.

Spotlight: Lineapelle

London is prepping for the international leather fair to return July 9 at The Ham Yard Hotel to outline the winter 2020-21 trends.

Highlighted as a sustainable, innovative and storied material at Lineapelle, the event encompasses 1,300 exhibitors from 40 countries, and over 20,000 visitors from more than 100 nations. According to Fulvia Bacchi, chief executive officer of Lineapelle, “the exhibition plays an international role in highlighting the importance of the sector in Italy,” with even the Italian government bolstering the fair. Bacchi further suggests leather’s “potential for adaptation and its incredible performance capability” being of interest to designers and consumers alike.

London will be the stage for the “total immersion in the world of the co-natural,” as Bacchi previously told WWD when describing Lineapelle’s marriage of technology and nature as key themes. Attendees can expect to interact with century-old businesses who exhibit at Lineapelle, attend leather training courses, and experience the latest techniques and innovations in the art of leather.

The next exhibition in London will forecast upcoming winter trends while continuing the momentum on technology and sustainable innovation, infusing Italian heritage. Later, the Milan edition will show winter collections at the Milano-Rho fairgrounds in Italy from Oct. 2 to 4.

Spotlight: Mipel

International b-to-b leather goods and fashion accessories show, Mipel returns to Milan Sept. 15 to 18, 2019 for its 116th edition, in partnership with the Italian Trade Agency. The showing sets the stage for 300 top brands and companies and over 10,000 worldwide visitors to interact for the love of leather.

Attracting international fashion and accessories buyers, Mipel aims to meet the needs of industry professionals while bringing a new theme every edition. Spotlighting prestigious collaborations, partnerships and innovative products, the latest happenings will tie into this year’s theme: “The Bag Show.”

Likewise, “Scenario International” is the stage for contemporary goods, with a pulse on emerging brands.

Through this year’s theme, Mipel hopes to foster dialogue between Italian creativity and foreign markets, with relevant discussion over “cool bags.”

Spotlight: Pitti Immagine

Click! That’s the theme for Pitti Immagine’s summer fairs of 2019, which “sums up the energy that circulates around the Fortezza, and suddenly finds a direction.” Show organizers for Pitti Uomo 96 explained that “something special clicks into place” at each edition of the show, which will take place on June 11 to 14 at the Main Forecourt of the Fortezza da Basso in Florence.

“The Pitti Special Click is a spark that produces alchemies that are always different,” said Agostino Poletto, general manager of Pitti Immagine. He continued, “[it is] a click of energy and emotion [that] it is difficult to [explain], as well as the ‘X Factor’ that decrees the success of every rendezvous. The element that makes people continue to come to Florence in order to see, learn and try to understand.”

Pitti Uomo’s set design will be curated by “lifestyler” Sergio Colantuoni, which will be the “biggest layout ever realized” at Pitti: A 1,000-square-meter stilt house will stand in the center of the Fortezza, creating a circular itinerary, show organizers said. White canopied sofas will provide seating in the lounge area, and the setup will a feature a garden and terrace nearby the stilt house; its food selection will offer four bars, as part of a “food circuit,” show organizers said.

To enhance the show’s visual component, graphic signs and collages for The Pitti Special Click will be produced by illustrator Angelica Gerosa, including the creation of the “perfect outfit” by choosing apparel items from different sections of the fair, which includes a polka dot sock with a zig zag jacket; a tie with a diamond-shaped bag; jeans with a floral jacket, and a starry hat.

The installation “will be a large circular satellite” says Colantuoni. “Salvaging things from the past, from prehistory, is the input that led me to create this enormous stilt house, as if to elevate us from this earth and create a new human space that is more serene. Soaring above a livable garden in order to rediscover our wellbeing, our center. A light and convivial village where Angelica Gerosa’s super colorful collages stand out amongst the vegetation and the super white. We have to take back nature for ourselves, rediscover the pleasure of using our hands, our tactility, our senses. Reawakening it all through intuition.”

Spotlight: Vicenzaoro

One could say that this year’s jewelry show Vicenzaoro is a meeting of the minds. Taking place Sept. 7 to 11 in Vicenza, Italy, Vicenzaoro — which will hold a “market trend” theme for this edition — determines the latest design trends that influence the jewelry sector through its creative arms, such as The Design Room, Trendvision or its independent research center that forecasts global jewelry trends, show organizers said. The Design Room, located within the Icon community hall, will feature 12 top independent designers presenting their own collections, and “offer an interpretation of contemporaneity in a highly original and creative key,” noting the groups’ “unusual gem accompaniments” and use of “curious geometries.”

Designers such as Marie Mas, Lydia Courteille and Alessio Boschi will present in The Design Room, alongside international entries, such as Tomasz Donocik, a Polish designer who lives and works in London, who has already been nominated as Jeweler of the Year in the United Kingdom, according to show organizers.

Federica Frosini, chief editor of VO+ Jewelry and Luxury magazine, the Italian Exhibition Group’s publication specifically centered on jewelry, said that “Once again at the September 2019 edition, The Design Room will be strengthening Vicenzaoro’s new international direction which, with this project, gives voice to a series of accurately selected international designers. [The concept] focuses on independent designers whose stylistic identity is expressed through collections of extremely high-quality manufacture.”

In addition, the show will host English designer Stephen Webster for the first time – who is considered a “rockstar” in the industry and has “brought “a breath of youthfulness and turmoil to the British jewelry world,” according to show organizers. Frosini noted that Webster is considered “A great jewelry artist, who has revolutionized aesthetics and a way of speaking to women with never conventional, amusing, whimsical, decisive and dreamy jewelry. A language that has successfully challenged a creative code where jewelry is anchored to classic balance, but which Stephen Webster has managed to overturn.”

And attendees can’t miss the presentation of TrendBook 2021+ at the seminar given by TRendVision Jewelry + Forecasting, the world’s first independent research center specialized in jewelry trends and consumer attitudes. The seminar will be led by Paola De Luca, international luxury scene analyst.

Spotlight: Milano Unica

“Sustainability and eroticism” are the driving forces behind Milano Unica’s upcoming fall 2020 season, which presents a dark, contemplative take on the intersection of fashion and social media. “At the center of reflection is the impulse, growing stronger in contemporary culture, of pleasure,” show organizers noted. Its next edition will take place on July 9 to 11 in Milan.

Milano Unica’s inspiration stems from social networks and how “the law of ‘likes’ have actually promoted, on a global scale, the need to show off and to appear in order to be approved and shared. In this popular form of self-congratulation and unveiling of self, eroticism is understood as an attitude that imposes erotic conduct and attitudes, both concrete or imaginative, which also establishes precise aesthetic expressions,” show organizers explained.

Its three “futuristic moods” — all of which speak to personalities on social media — include: dark and lustful, sometimes ironic and surreal, and intentionally unreal. Its moods are characterized by “three themes dedicated to three ways of appearing, of posing, of living reality, real or implied, following 3 powerful aesthetics, decisive and strong, where mankind is almost overwhelmed by a desire to appear, to impress, to show off, just as Facebook and Instagram have taught us, in poses that are almost never real and attitudes that are stretched beyond levels that do not depict us.”

Its three erotic themes connect to sustainability through a more philosophical take on fashion and environment: “The three theatrical platforms of life, one drama, one surreal and another supernatural, projected into a timeless future moved forward in time, in which the concepts of ecology and eroticism become essential suffixes for each theme: Ecorotic Drama, Ecorotic Circus, Ecorotic Eden,” show organizers noted.

And in contrast, on a lighter note, its other key element for trends is sustainability. “Regard for the environment is carried through starting from a mindful supply chain capable of implementing an ecological system process, to the point of considering reuse and, accordingly, a circular economy far from the wastefulness and waste that are harmful to the planet,” show organizers said.

Spotlight: Première Vision

“The question of eco-responsibility in the fashion industry is now essential for its future,” according to show organizers of Première Vision. It follows that sustainability is the overarching theme for its upcoming edition, held on September 17 to 19 in Paris at Parc des Expositions Paris Nord Villepinte.

In its introduction of fall 2020 materials and trends, Première Vision attendees will find an enhanced Smart Square, its sustainability concept, which has “grown significantly” since its inception in 2015; a “reinforced” Sport & Tech area to respond to the growth of the sector; new techniques and fabrications for leather goods and apparel via the Première Vision Manufacturing Leather space; development of the Première Vision Marketplace, with the integration of PV Accessories’ exhibitors; and the 11th edition of the PV awards, which recognize both creativity and innovation in the fabric and leather industries, all according to show organizers.

“Smart Creation is a 360-degree platform for communications, whose primary goal is to promote the responsible approaches of the show’s exhibitors and shed light on a new generation of values combining creativity, innovation and sustainability. The aim is to showcase new perspectives and new competitive advantages for the entire creative fashion industry,” show organizers noted.

And Chantal Malingrey, marketing director of Première Vision and head of the Smart Creation platform, told WWD, “Our ambition and our will is to embark and support the industry towards an eco-designed fashion. Première Vision has a key role as a hub of the upstream fashion and textile industry, because the environmental impact of a textile product is therefore determined by its design.

And concretely, Première Vision Paris has developed a global approach that integrates all the criteria of a responsible industry around the Smart Creation program, which is a unique system that includes materials, services, conferences and collections of finished products.”
