TIME 100’S FASHION FINDS: Time magazine has given a nod to two of the fashion industry’s well-known stars, Alexander Wang and Diane von Furstenberg, in its list of the year’s 100 most influential people. Time will fete the designers, along with fellow power players across other industries, at its annual gala on Tuesday in New York. The magazine, which hits newsstands on Friday, will release the full list of honorees today on its Web site.

Winners are chosen from several categories, such as leaders and revolutionaries, builders and titans, artists and entertainers, scientists and thinkers and heroes and icons. The chosen 100 are introduced to readers via a short story penned by a fellow leader in his or her industry. In the fashion space, model Karlie Kloss introduced Wang in a short essay entitled: “The Cool Kid of Fashion.” Kloss provided an anecdote about her first meeting with Wang; she was 15, he was 24, and she described him as a “completely original mash-up of youthful energy, street culture and high fashion.” The model, who has walked down Wang’s runways numerous times, said the creative director of Balenciaga is successful because he has raw talent, a dedicated work ethic and a “unique ability to make high fashion ubiquitous.”

Honoring von Furstenberg is Jessica Alba, the actress and cofounder of Honest Co. In her write up, “Fashion Force,” Alba noted: “Fashion is seen as a tool for fantasy, but Diane von Furstenberg used it to show us that we can transform our reality.”

Alba referred to the designer’s past, which includes becoming a wife, mother and creator of the wrap dress.

“It’s build for speed, sophistication and simplicity. And it doesn’t deny a woman’s femininity — it celebrates it,” Alba said of the dress. “Just like the designer herself.”
