BARNEYS BUZZ: Could Barneys New York’s next major move involve Jay Z? The luxury retailer is said to have held secret talks with the artist about a possible future collaboration, perhaps even one tied to the store’s upcoming holiday campaign.

Jay Z’s own interests have lately extended in several directions, including the art world — he just filmed a video for “Picasso Baby” with a broad swath of contemporary artists — and he partnered with Samsung as part of the release of “Magna Carta…Holy Grail,” his new album, which features a song called “Tom Ford” (just one of several intersections with the fashion world). His Roc Nation entertainment company also recently branched out to represent professional athletes.

Executives at Barneys could not be reached for comment, but the store has increasingly been amping up its holiday extravaganzas, notably with Lady Gaga in 2011 and the Walt Disney Co. last year.
