LONDON — Condé Nast International said it has appointed Moritz von Laffert as director of acquisitions and investments for Condé Nast International, a new post.


Von Laffert, who is based in Germany, will be responsible for overseeing the publishing firm’s investments in external companies and start-ups, particularly in the digital sector.


Von Laffert is currently president of Condé Nast Germany and a vice president of Condé Nast International, with a seat on the firm’s executive committee, and will continue to hold these roles alongside his new position.


Over the past two years, Condé Nast International has taken stakes in businesses including Farfetch, the London based e-retailer; Vestiaire Collective, a Paris-based online fashion marketplace; Renesim, a Germany-based online jeweler; and Monoqi, another Germany-based e-commerce firm that specializes in design objects.


“Moritz has played a leadership role in bringing about our current investments, and this appointment reinforces his authority,” said Jonathan Newhouse, chairman and chief executive of Condé Nast International. “He has the experience and know-how to drive Condé Nast International’s expansion into new digital businesses through investment.”


Von Laffert, who joined Condé Nast Germany as president in 2009 added: “Condé Nast has a great deal to offer start-up operations, and we are actively looking for opportunities to invest.”
