NEW YORK — Gina Sanders has been named president and chief executive officer of Fairchild Fashion Group, effective Feb. 1.
Sanders replaces Richard Beckman, who resigned last week to become ceo of e5 Global Media. As ceo of Fairchild, Sanders will oversee WWD, WWD.com, Footwear News, Fairchild Summits and Fairchild Books. She will report to Charles Townsend, Condé Nast’s president and ceo.
Sanders has been with Condé Nast for more than 20 years, most recently as vice president and publisher of Lucky. Prior to Lucky, she was founding publisher of Teen Vogue. Sanders also has worked as publisher of Gourmet and Details. She began her career at Condé Nast with House & Garden.
As for her immediate plans at Fairchild, Sanders said she intends to take a “well measured approach and proceed from a point of due diligence.” She declined to speculate on whether some of her colleagues at Lucky will be making the move with her. “I look forward to meeting the team [at Fairchild] soon,” Sanders said.
And it looks like the five-year plan Beckman had put together for the division likely will be re-evaluated as Sanders said she would take her own approach to the business. As for W magazine, WWD’s sister publication, Sanders said it will reside on the consumer side of the Condé Nast business.
A new publisher for Lucky has not been named, said a spokeswoman, but an appointment is expected shortly. It’s believed Sanders’ successor will come from the existing publisher ranks.
