DINKLAGE STYLE: For its spring style issue, Esquire magazine has found itself a new, somewhat surprising, muse: actor Peter Dinklage.

Known for his role on HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” Dinklage was approached last December by editor in chief David Granger and his team, all of whom are self-professed fans.

“We’ve been fans of Peter Dinklage since ‘Living in Oblivion’ and, especially, ‘The Station Agent.’ There’s an effortless power he conveys on-screen that is inimitable,” Granger said.

Admittedly, the March issue, which hits newsstands Tuesday, is a little early for the debut of the fourth season of “Game of Thrones,” which debuts on April 6, but Grander said he doesn’t care.

“We knew it would be a great cover with one of the great actors of the moment,” he said.

For the shoot, the magazine’s fashion director Nick Sullivan reached out to Giorgio Armani to dress Dinklage. The Italian house turned around a made-to-measure suit in two weeks and in the process, the label gained a fan.

“I don’t think he’s had a suit made for him for a shoot. He’s had separates made for him,” Granger said, adding that when he showed Armani the cover backstage before his men’s show in Milan, “the first thing he said was, ‘Forte! Strong!’ Perfect description of the man.”

To go along with the spread, Mike Sager penned the seven-page feature, called “Dink,” on the actor, which gives insight into Dinklage’s personality and relationships with friends and family. Also in the issue is a 24-page spread on the impact of personal style, as well as a story on four rising, New York-based designers: Ovadia & Sons, Public School, Ernest Alexander and Orley.
