Ebay Inc. launched a new shopping site, eBay Celebrity, that combines celebrity participants with memorabilia and merchandise for philanthropic causes.
The site is part of eBay’s eight-year-old charitable platform eBay Giving Works, and features charity auctions. This year’s philanthropic efforts through the eBay platform include the auction of limited edition Nike Mag sneakers that raised millions for The Michael J. Fox Foundation and an annual lunch with Warren Buffet that sold for $2.63 million, according to the company. So far this year eBay Giving Works raised $51 million. The new site, launched in time for holiday, connects consumers with charity and commerce.
Planned auction items for eBay Celebrity include one-of-a-kind merchandise, concert tickets and meet-and-greet opportunities. Consumers will also be able to shop and give back, either via shopping to support a cause or making a donation at checkout.
Ebay celebrity participants at launch include: Christina Aguilera, Jeff Bridges, Michael Cooper, Sienna Miller, Hayden Panettiere, Katy Perry and Brad Pitt. Some of the charitable beneficiaries of upcoming events include International Medical Corps, Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry Campaign, American Red Cross and The Whaleman Foundation.
