FASHION FILM: Ermenegildo Zegna is venturing into film, collaborating with South Korean director Chan-wook Park on three short movies that will tie together with a finale that will premiere at the closing event of Shanghai Fashion Week next month.
Titled “A Rose Reborn,” the film stars British actor Jack Huston of “Boardwalk Empire” fame, and Daniel Wu from “Blood Brothers.” The script was written by Park — best known for his films “Oldboy” and “Stoker” — Chung-hoon Chung of “Slow Slow Quick Quick” and Japanese screenwriter, Ayako Fujitani of “The Doors.”
The project marks a creative partnership between Park and Zegna’s creative director, Stefano Pilati, who came together through producer Luca Guadagnino, the head of Frenesy Film.
The series follows two men, played by Huston and Wu, on a journey of self-discovery that takes them around the world to explore themes critical to the formation of their identity. The film hopes to explore the intersection of both Eastern and Western cultures.
The first episode made its debut Monday on the Zegna Web site, and centers around Stephen, a young engineer and chief executive officer who meets with the mysterious Mr. Lu, who wants to buy his company. The second episode will air on Sept. 24, the third, Oct. 13, and the finale on Oct. 23 in Shanghai.
