GQ NOMINATES: While the CFDA revealed its own nominee batch of the year’s best men’s designers on Wednesday, GQ is set to publish some of its own picks next week. The magazine chose four up-and-coming designers for its seventh annual Best New Menswear Designers in America program: Paige Mycoskie of Aviator Nation, Matt Baldwin of Baldwin Denim, Liam and Sam Fayed of Bespoken and Ernest Alexander Sabine of Ernest Alexander. As with last year’s crop of emerging labels, each of the designers will create a capsule collection in collaboration with Gap, to be sold in select Gap stores globally in September, as well as online.

The group of promising talents is featured in the April issue of GQ, on newsstands March 19, while their designs for Gap will be showcased in the October issue. “We do about 100 showroom visits to start; there were 10 people we were really excited about and then we narrowed it down to four,” said Jim Moore, creative director of GQ. There are fewer featured designers this year than last year’s six, meaning each designer this time around will be able to create a larger lineup of designs for Gap, said Tony Kretten, the retailer’s senior men’s wear design director.
