REGGAE RHYTHM: John Varvatos is turning from rock ’n’ roll to reggae for his spring ad campaign.

The designer, who last season used rock legend Ringo Starr in his ads, will this time feature Ziggy Marley and his brother Stephen in a black-and-white family portrait shot in Austin, Texas, by rock photographer Danny Clinch. The men, who are the sons of Bob Marley, are wearing Varvatos tailored clothing in the shot.

“We wanted to strip down the concept of the image to a purely beautiful, truthful portrait of two siblings. Just them. Nothing else,” said Stephen Niedzwiecki, founder and chief creative officer of Yard, Varvatos’ creative agency. “We wanted their faces and their body language to naturally express their bond and love for one another as brothers and music collaborators.”

Varvatos added, “The Marley family is legendary. Ziggy Marley and Stephen Marley are carrying on this legacy in their own authentic way.”

In the ad, Ziggy Marley wears a black crocodile jacquard two-button peak-lapel Jake tuxedo and a black linen Henley while Stephen wears a black one-button peak-lapel Austin tuxedo, a gray dress shirt and a black silk tie.

Ziggy Marley, a six-time Grammy winner, Emmy winner, humanitarian, singer, songwriter and producer, said: “It’s always better when I’m able to do projects with my younger brother.” Stephen added: “Our father would be proud to see us dressed up and coming together for this.” Stephen “Ragga” Marley began singing professionally at age seven and has earned eight Grammys for Best Reggae Album over the course of his career.

On Feb. 5, a documentary-style short film will debut on in celebration of Bob Marley’s 70th birthday the following day.
