YEEZY DOES IT: No one can accuse Ikea of not having a sense of humor. On Tuesday, the company responded to a throwaway comment by Kanye West that he would like to design furniture with the Swedish brand.
West said during an interview with BBC Radio that he wants to make his Yeezy line more affordable so his younger fans can purchase it, and he would also like to create furniture for college dorm rooms.
“I have to work with Ikea, make furniture for interior design, for architecture. I want to create a minimalist apartment inside of a college dorm,” said West. “Yo Ikea, allow Kanye to create, allow him to make this thing because you know what, I want a bed that he makes, I want a chair that he makes.”
On Tuesday morning, Ikea posted a response on its Facebook page.
“Hey Kanye, we’d love to see what you create. We could make you Famous,” said the company, referring to the rapper’s recent song, “Famous” which has stirred up much controversy and criticism from Taylor Swift, who features in the lyrics.
Ikea also posted a sketch of a ready-to-assemble bed, bearing the Yeezy label.
West was seen visiting the Ikea head offices in Almhult, south Sweden, earlier this year.
For the moment, West seems wedded to high-end fashion, starring in Balmain’s latest campaign, alongside his wife Kim Kardashian and models Joan Smalls, Jon Kortajarena, Alessandra Ambrosio, Ysaunny Brito, Jourdan Dunn, Jordan Barrett and Josephine Skriver.
The campaign, which was released last week on the brand’s Instagram account, features the high-profile members of the “Balmain army” in embellished pieces from the French house’s fall 2016 range.
The campaign video also doubles as West’s music video for his latest song “Wolves,” and aims to highlight the close relationship between music and fashion.
