Vogue Italia dedicated its June issue, hitting newsstands on Wednesday, to the concept of family.
Along with photographing his own family, Mario Sorrenti lensed a range of international personalities from different industries with members of their families. These include Kate Moss, who is portrayed with her daughter Lila Grace Moss Hack; Pat Cleveland with her husband Paul van Ravenstein and her children Noel and Anna; Sasha Pivovarova and her daughter Mia Isis; Edie and Olympia Campbell; Yasmin and Amber Le Bon; Christopher Kane and his sister Tammy; Lucie de la Falaise and her daughter Ella Richards; model twins Lia and Odette Pavlova; Liv Tyler and her son Sailor, and Lais Ribeiro and her son Alexandre.
Moss, Edie Campbell, Pat Cleveland and Pivovarova, all with their respective family members, as well as Arsun, Gray and Mary Sorrenti, are also on the issue’s five different covers.
“My whole outlook on life revolves around the family, even when I’m at work, so for me it was natural to make it the fil rouge of this feature, of these 80 pages of images and thoughts,” Sorrenti said. “The real challenge was to produce portraits able to make a strong fashion statement, while at the same time composing a large family album, a contemporary album in line with the way we are accustomed to seeing and using photographs on social media.”
“The importance of the emotional element in the images is made even more immediate by the way each of us shares photos on social media. A large slice of the pictures we post shows the faces of our families, friends and loved ones,” said Vogue Italia editor in chief Franca Sozzani. “This is why, along with Sorrenti, I decided to devote an entire issue to this theme. Through the prospective of Vogue, my aim is to show the bond between love and family, and the value it has, maintaining — as always — the strong interconnection with the theme of fashion.”
The images are presented with three stories written by Rufus Wainwright, Matteo Bussola and Xavier Dolan, who explored the theme of family in music, social networks and movies.
