INDEPENDENT SPIRIT: Cementing Kenzo’s ties with the American independent film scene, creative directors Carol Lim and Humberto Leon have tapped U.S. director Sean Baker to make a short movie featuring the label’s spring 2016 collection.
Like “Tangerine,” Baker’s critically acclaimed feature about a couple of transgender sex workers in Los Angeles, the short film was shot entirely on an iPhone.
Titled “Snowbird,” the short features model and actress Abbey Lee as Young Theo, a woman living in an isolated community in the desert, in her first screen appearance since “Mad Max: Fury Road.”
The film will be unveiled on Feb. 3 at kenzo.com/snowbird, while the print campaign, also lensed by Baker, will break in magazines 10 and 10 Men on Monday.
The Kenzo designers previously chose Gregg Araki to direct a short film for its fall 2015 collections, and prior to that asked David Lynch to create the set design and music for their fall 2014 outing.
