KARL’S EYE: In the run-up to the French presidential election that begins in April, Karl Lagerfeld is putting in his two cents. Starting today, French magazine Elle began publishing a series of irreverent political cartoons by the designer. “Karl follows the political climate closely, he has a true interest for society,” Elle editorial director Valérie Toranian explained. “When Karl showed me his sketches, I thought, ‘These are great, we have to let other people share it.’”

“L’Oeil de Karl” (“Karl’s Eye,” in English) will be published every Friday until the elections, and will provide an impertinent and nonbiased slant on the political climate, Toranian said. The first sketch in the series features all the presidential candidates wrapped up in scarves in their party colors, with a caption that translates as: “Wrap up warm and be careful not to lose your voice.”
