UNDER OBSERVATION: Sophie Fontanel has been tapped as fashion contributor for newsweekly L’Obs, and its monthly lifestyle supplement O, effective in early May.

Fontanel is a seasoned editor of Elle France, where she held various positions including editor in chief for fashion.

“This hire is in keeping with the transformation of L’Obs, where we are bringing an esteemed writer and a vision for our times,” according to L’Obs management.

The magazine got a makeover last October, where Nouvel Obs became L’Obs and Obsession became O. This came after the acquisition by Pierre Bergé, Xavier Niel and Matthieu Pigasse, the triumvirate that also owns Le Monde group.

In 2014, paid circulation of Le Nouvel Observateur in France was 460,780, according to France’s Audit Bureau.

Separately, Fontanel launched on April 7 “Fonelle Time,” a biweekly newsletter focusing on fashion and lifestyle, in partnership with Time to Sign Off (TTSO) founder Romain Dessalle.
