GATES TO CONTRIBUTE TO MARIECLAIRE.COM: MarieClaire.com has tapped Melinda Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, as a contributing editor. Her first piece will go live this morning. Click here for a peak.
Gates will consult on story ideas, correspond from her travels abroad and write a regular column that speaks to the issues facing women today, both in the U.S. and in the developing world.
“I’m looking forward to the important conversations we’ll start together,” said Gates, whose first piece introduces herself, gives a history of her fight for women’s rights and asks the readers what they’d like her to explore going forward.
Site director Jessica Pels noted that Gates “is on the front lines of women’s issues,” and has formidable business and philanthropic experience.
As co-chair of the foundation, Gates shapes the strategies and sets the overall direction of the organization. In 2012, Gates spearheaded the London Summit on Family Planning, which adopted the goal of delivering contraceptives to an additional 120 million women in developing countries by 2020.
