The Atlantic has poached Jay Lauf from Wired to serve as publisher of the magazine. Lauf will report to Justin Smith, president of Atlantic Consumer Media.

Lauf had been publisher of Wired since August 2006 and was lauded by higher-ups at Condé Nast as a rising star at the company. He leaves Wired after the title grew ad pages 4 percent in 2007, to 1,334. Pages have risen 5 percent this year through April.
