MOVING ON UP: The Condé Nast mother ship is readying itself for its relocation to One World Trade Center, according to an internal memo to employees sent by chief executive officer Charles Townsend on Tuesday afternoon.

Rallying the troops, Townsend called the move a “historic moment” for the company. Condé staffers will begin the pilgrimage downtown starting in November. In June, employees working in the technology and production departments in IS&T and Condé Nast Entertainment will move from 1166 Avenue of the Americas to three designated floors in 222 Broadway, which is adjacent to One WTC.

The entire move will be completed by February 2015, said insiders, who divulged the placement of key Condé publications within the new building.

Condé Nast will occupy 1.2 million square feet on floors 20 through 44. Senior executives will sit on the 42nd floor, the source said, adding that corporate departments will occupy the first five floors and the top three floors, with the majority of the publications housed on floors 25 through 33 and 36 through 41.

Vanity Fair’s editorial department will occupy the 41st floor and its publishing wing will sit on 40, with the entire publishing and editorial staff of Teen Vogue. The New Yorker’s editorial staff will be sprinkled on 38 and 39, which will also house its publishing staff, as well as the editorial and publishing teams of Details. Editorial and publishing staff for W magazine will finally nab a spot in Condé’s gilded HQ —they are currently at 1166 Sixth Avenue — but they will have to share the 32nd floor with Golf Digest.

Glamour is on 30, situated one floor above Lucky, while GQ gets 28. Vogue’s publishing team will room with the edit and publishing staffs of Architectural Digest on 26. Vogue’s editorial team will inhabit 25, which is one floor above the photo studios.

Townsend noted that sandwiched in the mix are “two remarkable amenity floors on 34 and 35 connected by an extraordinary interior spiral staircase,” which will include a reception area, a conference center, a library, an auditorium, an art gallery, a private dining space, a cafeteria and an after-hours café.

The ceo said more information would emerge in the coming months, including pictures of the building and a neighborhood and dining guide. Presumably a transportation map on how to get way downtown will be in the packet.
