PAGE TURNER: Pamela Skaist-Levy and Gela Nash-Taylor, the cofounders of Juicy Couture, who have since launched a new collection, Skaist-Taylor, have signed a book deal with Gotham Books. “It’s an entrepreneurial book about how we’re the American dream, starting a business with $200 and growing it into a global brand,” said Skaist-Levy. The Los Angeles designers said they have a lot of experience to share with those who want to start a business.

Titled “The Glitter Plan,” the book will be written in collaboration with Booth Moore, fashion critic for the Los Angeles Times. “She wrote the first story on us about how the tracksuit changed the way women dressed. She’s part of our story and we wanted an L.A. girl to write the story. We changed the way people look at fashion in L.A.,” said Nash-Taylor. The designers said they’ll take the story from the early days of starting Juicy Couture, to selling to Liz Claiborne Inc. (now Fifth & Pacific Cos. Inc.) all the way up to the Bill McComb years. “There are lessons in that,” said Nash-Taylor. She noted that there are pitfalls to selling your business and people really want to know what to look out for. They’ll finish the story with their newest project, Skaist-Taylor, a contemporary collection which is currently being sold to retailers such as Net-a-porter, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Maxfield, Harrods, Harvey Nichols and Holt Renfrew.

The book will be published in spring 2014. “It’s a positive story. It’s not a tell-all. It’s a happy story,” said Skaist-Levy.
