Patrick Demarchelier’s well-known photo exhibit, which had once been on display at Le Petit Palais, Musée des Beaux-Arts in Paris, is set to come to New York in 2017. (A precise date of arrival and venue is still in the works.)
The original exhibit, called “Images et mode au Petit Palais” [images and fashion at the Petit Palais], was on view in Paris from Sept. 27, 2008, until Jan. 4, 2009. The exhibit comprised 400 photos of Demarchelier’s most recognizable work, including portraits of Princess Diana, Madonna, Linda Evangelista, Gisele Bündchen, Angelina Jolie, Keith Richards, Nicole Kidman, Tom Cruise, Oprah, Sting, Rod Stewart and Christy Turlington.
“Patrick Demarchelier’s sensitivity, deep sense of humanity, respect for his subjects, and ability to unearth passion in each individual advances the museum’s aesthetic commitment,” said Gilles Chazal, curator-in-chief director of Le Petit Palais. “Regardless of whether the subject is famous or unknown, they vibrate to the frequency of the photographer’s generous gaze. And the visitor is carried away by the life force bursting from the model’s eyes.”
Angela Debona Agency and 360bespoke are working together to bring Demarchelier’s exhibit to New York, and will be responsible for selecting a venue, sponsors and planning the event.
“I am very excited to bring this exhibition to New York,” Demarchelier said. “It is one of the proudest moments in my career and I’ve long wanted to present it in one of fashion’s important cities. Angela De Bona, my longtime representative, and the team at 360bespoke are the right partners to bring this collection to the U.S. Every day is a new challenge and as a photographer you must constantly renew yourself.”
DeBona added: “The exhibition in Paris was a moment in time that became a worldwide event. Rarely has a photographic event ever received such acclaim. New York is a natural evolution of this experience and I am incredibly proud to work with my friends at 360bespoke to make it happen.”
Jeremy Murphy, president and chief executive officer of 360bespoke, echoed DeBona: “There is no more accomplished, respected photographer than Patrick Demarchelier, and we are very excited to work with him and Angela to bring this to New York. There are already representatives from the most renowned museum exhibition spaces vying to host this event. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience for any enthusiast of photography, fashion and art and we cannot wait to present it.”
