Woman’s Day and Redbook, the two Hearst-owned titles, have combined select staff members, WWD has learned.
Staff from Woman’s Day were given the news at a meeting Thursday morning, a source said, adding that among the cuts at Woman’s Day were the assistant managing editor, deputy editor and beauty assistant.
“Redbook and Woman’s Day are distinct, independent brands, with individual core creative teams and editors-in-chief,” a spokeswoman from Hearst Magazines said. “Taking a page from the successful organization of the Hearst Design Group, they will share select operational functions, to insure nimble, fast-moving businesses that thrive on collaboration.”
In June, Hearst president David Carey told WWD that Redbook and Woman’s Day would continue to have separate editors in chief, but that across the organization’s “midrange” magazines, “sharing resources” would continue to occur.
“Many of our brands will share. More people in the organization will work on one brand. They can touch more than one business,” he said. “Magazines sharing resources — you will see that across Hearst.”
