PARIS — Carrefour SA is growing its global footprint.
The world’s second-largest retailer behind Wal-Mart Stores Inc. said it entered into an agreement to acquire a network of 86 Billa supermarkets in Romania.
Through the acquisition from the Rewe group, Carrefour is strengthening its multiformat offer, while the additional sales area of 890,000 square feet would make it the leading supermarket operator in Romania, it noted.
Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
The transaction remains subject to approval by the relevant antitrust authorities.
