Fashion East will retain the remaining 17 percent of the John Richmond label, which will continue to be designed by Richmond himself.
The brand’s ready-to-wear and accessories collections will be produced and distributed under license by ARAV, which is controlled by both the Ammaturo family and Naples-based private equity fund Vertis Sgr.
“We opened a design studio for John Richmond in London and we have also just released a campaign featuring John as the protagonist in order to highlight his leading role in the company,” said ARAV chief executive officer Mena Marano. The campaign will be instrumental to clarify the position of the designer following the legal battle with his former business partner Saverio Moschillo.
Earlier this year, the Milan Court declared that Moschillo, as well as his companies Gioia Milano srl, Moschillo srl and Biver srl, cannot use any label and trademark including the names John Richmond and Richmond. Moschillo sold his 50 percent stake in the John Richmond brand to Fashion East in November 2015.
According to Marano, John Richmond will show a spring 2018 women’s collection in September during Milan Fashion Week, while he will debut his men’s fall 2018 lineup at London Fashion Week in January.
Last week the brand unveiled its latest children’s wear collection at Florence trade show Pitti Bimbo and presented the resort 2018 women’s lineup to buyers.
“We are already receiving extremely positive feedback,” said Marano, citing Harvey Nichols, Luisa Via Roma and Traffic Los Angeles, among the retailers that have already placed orders.
Russia, China and the Middle East will be the most appealing markets for the brand, Marano explained, adding that the company will open its first flagship in Milan by the end of 2018.
