Reed Exhibitions has acquired Capsule, the global trade fair for contemporary men’s and women’s apparel and accessories.

Terms of the transaction, which was completed in late December, were not disclosed. But the Capsule franchise, which has been independently operated by New York-based fashion consultancy BPMW since its inception, will join Reed’s growing portfolio of fashion and entertainment events, which includes the surf and skate streetwear-focused Agenda trade fair, as well as Comic Con. Reed is reportedly the world’s largest events organizer, and manages more than 500 events in 42 countries throughout the Americas, Europe, the Middle East and Asia Pacific.

Capsule stages 12 shows annually in New York, Paris, Berlin and Las Vegas, and specializes in presenting an assortment of independent, high-end designers. The trade show has gained traction in the contemporary and emerging designer markets since its founding in 2007, when it operated solely as a men’s-focused show staged during men’s market weeks. In 2010, Capsule launched its first women’s edition in New York.

Both Capsule and Reed officials will collaborate on show development and work to further enhance the overall experience for exhibitors and visitors, said Deirdre Maloney, who cofounded Capsule with Edina Sultanik and Minya Quirk.

Greg Topalian, senior vice president at Reed, described the union as a “great cultural fit with our growing fashion portfolio, and a great addition to what we’re doing with the Agenda events.

“The [Capsule] team’s dedication to the feel, authenticity and respect for the market it serves has been, and will continue to be, the key to Capsule’s success,” he said.
