Kimco Realty Corp. said it installed photovoltaic solar energy arrays in two retail properties in New Jersey, in Bridgewater and Edgewater.
Kimco now has a total of six in its portfolio of solar-powered shopping centers in New Jersey.
The real estate investment trust said the two PV systems will generate an estimated 1.3 million kilowatts of zero-emission power per year. They are estimated to meet 60 to 80 percent of the annual energy needs of several major retailers in the centers. Kimco said it has more than three megawatts of energy production capacity across its six solar-powered properties in New Jersey.
The REIT said it is working on expanding its list of solar-powered centers both within and beyond the borders of New Jersey.
The Bridgewater Promenade is a 242,000-square-foot shopping center, while the Edgewater Commons is a 423,000-square-foot shopping complex.
