The assemblage of trade shows and events in Las Vegas can be overwhelming. Here’s a roundup of key points to know and events not to miss.

In lieu of a country of focus at the August edition, Sourcing at MAGIC is aiming the spotlight on a single category: denim.

Ninety factories that are involved in every facet of global denim manufacturing — from dyeing and recycling yarn to washing and sewing — are joining a section labeled “All About Denim,” located at the show’s second-floor entrance in the Las Vegas Convention Center’s South Hall. Among the first-time exhibitors at Sourcing are Portugal’s Pizarro and Spain’s Jeanologia, the latter of which is staging an installation explaining its various environmentally sustainable washes.

Cotton Incorporated also plans to enlighten denim designers on the latest developments in processes like digital printing and foil treatments.

The third display is Aztex’s assembly of the newest trends in denim washes, including recycled yarn and garment-dyed techniques such as shibori.

Sourcing at MAGIC runs Aug. 17 to 20, in the Las Vegas Convention Center, South Hall.


As interest in producing jeans in the Americas region grows, Sourcing at MAGIC is gathering executives from premium denim brands and fabric and equipment makers to share their insights from 3 to 4 p.m. on Aug. 17 at the Las Vegas Convention Center’s South Hall, room S231.

Speakers include Hudson Jeans’ Peter Kim, Jeanologia’s Rolando Sierra, Isko’s Kutay Saritosun, Pizarro’s Vasco Pizarro and Jeff Shafer from Agave Denim and Bluer.


Launching a successful e-commerce business isn’t quite as simple as turning on a computer.

Besides displaying clothing in the most flattering light on screens from desktop to mobile and ensuring speedy shipping, online sellers also must keep their target audience engaged with products and social messaging.

A panel of experts from the e-tailing space — including Monika Wiela, chief executive officer of; Jason Gorjana, founder of, and Francesca Helina, founder of Live the Look Inc. — will share their experiences in making successful Web sites for brands as well as retailers from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 19 at the Las Vegas Convention Center’s South Hall, room S231 Sourcing at MAGIC.


ENK Vegas isn’t heeding the traditional fashion rule to remove one accessory before leaving the house.

Instead, the women’s contemporary trade fair is piling 134 brands into a new area, dubbed Accessories, at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. Among the exhibitors are Culver City, Calif.-based Dogeared, Australia’s Quay Eyeware and Made from the U.K.

Highlighting exhibitors offering bags, jewelry, hats, scarves and footwear, ENK Vegas said the devoted zone will complement the sections displaying premium denim and sportswear.

“We want to make it easier for retailers to navigate the show,” said Sunni Spencer, vice president of ENK Vegas.


Hawaii is the theme for nine clothing and accessories collaborations offered through ENK Exclusives, which are returning for a second run at ENK Vegas.

Available only at the trade fair in Las Vegas and codesigned with ENK Vegas vice president Sunni Spencer, all the selections put their spin on a vintage Hawaiian theme. That could entail an embroidered tote from Banago, a pillow from Cynthia Vincent or a printed dress from The Fifth Label.

Other pieces include a denim blouse printed with Hawaiian palms by Bella Dahl, a linen-and-jersey scarf that can double as a travel blanket from Donni Charm, a beaded necklace from Fulton & Gold, a fedora by Grace Hats, a silk bustier bra from Noe Undergarments and flower-encrusted sunglasses from Rad + Refined.
The pieces retail for between $50 and $350.

Pool Tradeshow is moving on up. Last February, after vacating its location adjacent to Project on the first floor, it relocated to the basement of the Mandalay Bay Convention Center.
Now, to the relief of its 200-plus brands that didn’t like the cloistered venue, the art and design-driven expo is heading upstairs to the second floor.

Located directly above Project and Tents @ Project, Pool will sit next to the streetwear brands showing at Mvmnt. Stretching over 20,000 square feet, the show will welcome back Sock It to Me’s lounge, where visitors can trade a pair of old socks for a new one, and its Cash and Carry corner that lets attendees scoop up accessories from Snash Jewelry, Georgia Varidakis and 40 other brands.

And what’s a congregation of hipsters without a photo booth? Spirit Hoods will be the host, snapping photos for selfies, groupies and more.


Agenda Show is launching a free app for its Targeted Attendee Program, or TAP, in Las Vegas.

Unveiled last January at its Long Beach show, the TAP app is reserved for 500 to 800 buyers, or less than 10 percent of the total attendees. In addition to flagging new brands and innovative products at the show, TAP also will suggest five to 10 appointments, which can be tracked with the app. “Some of our influential buyers get suggestions for new resources at the show,” said Agenda founder Aaron Levant. “It’s about driving connections.”


Not quite as famous as the Oscars but perhaps as coveted among fashion brands exhibiting at Project, the Blogger Project Awards are returning for the third time.

Led by Marcus Troy, a dozen bloggers participating in the trade fair’s Blogger Project will review collections on-site and distribute awards for best collection, accessories, denim, footwear, grooming product, new brand and Tents @ Project exhibitor.

They’ll also recognize a company that is a fan favorite. In addition to bragging rights, the winners will receive an engraved bottle of Champagne from Moët & Chandon.


The free bags given away at the trade shows are becoming branding vehicles.

Considering that the expos attract tens of thousands of visitors, the bags can be spotted up and down the Las Vegas Strip, then back in attendees’ hometowns. The totes also reflect trends in apparel, as seen in the wool and nylon carryall that Filson produced for Liberty Fairs last February.

This month, London-based Flying Horse Jeans is sponsoring the giveaway bag for Liberty. Succeeding AG by Adriano Goldschmied, Mavi from Turkey is making the handy accessory for Project.


Occupying about 6,000 square feet at Sourcing at MAGIC, more than 60 exhibitors will display domestic manufacturing might under the aegis of the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Exhibitors include 1928 Jewelry, California Rain, Tukatech, TC2, Parkdale, Brooks Brothers and Pacific Continental Textiles.

Sourcing at MAGIC opens Aug. 17 and runs through Aug. 20 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, South Hall.

All work and no play could make trade show attendees a dull lot. To prevent that, the fairs are packing the evenings with parties. Reality TV personality-turned-fashion designer Whitney Port is networking with a twist at a cocktail party cohosted by Trop Rouge blogger Christina Caradona in ENK Vegas’ Oasis section on Aug. 18. FN Platform is rocking out later that evening with the band Monroy at FN Café in the Las Vegas Convention Center’s South Hall. Capsule is directing its exhibitors and buyers off the Las Vegas Strip to a downtown dive bar called the Griffin on Aug. 19. That same night, Diesel is hailing its return to Project after a three-year absence by hosting the show’s official party at Marquee Nightclub. Following Diesel’s bash, Teyana Taylor is adding hostess to her singer-actress-designer credentials at Mvmnt’s after party at Marquee’s Boom Box Room.


As part of MAGIC’s seminar series (more than 50 free educational seminars, the largest series of any fashion trade show), the California Fashion Association will present “Alibaba, The Next Frontier.” China’s internet behemoth, which announced a filmmaking division on Aug. 5, is more than just an online mall. It provides the opportunity for businesses to find manufacturers and reach consumers in China.

The talk will feature an Alibaba representative and speaker Jim Salzano, former president of Clarks Americas and a member of the Two Ten Foundation board.

At WWDMAGIC, the blogger area on the Concourse formerly known as Social House will now be branded WWD Social House. Attendees can sit in on show-floor conversations with WWD editors and a host of online influencers (aka bloggers) about trends, growing a brand with social media and more.

Each August, ISAM presents the SWIM @ MAGIC section within the WWDMAGIC show, where more than 70 international swimwear, swim apparel and swim accessories brands (including Trina Turk, Seafolly, Banana Moon, Raisins, Anne Cole, Ipanema, Prana and Eskini Swim & Lounge) show their wares for spring.

This year, there’s a designer-level area featuring brands such as Frankie’s Bikinis, L Space by Monica Wise and Luli Fama. To see the suits come to life, check out the daily fashion show at 11 a.m. in the Las Vegas Convention Center’s Central Hall. The booming yoga and activewear category — it has grown at the show by 63 percent over last year — will also have a dedicated area at WWDMAGIC featuring brands such as Lorna Jane, Beyond Yoga, Zobha, Cozy Orange and Marika.


This returning Emerging Designer Showcase, presented by Fashion Business Inc. and Global Purchasing Cos., welcomes the following up-and-comers to North Hall:

The French department store’s international sales and marketing manager, Edouard de Bailliencourt, will be on-site to help judge and address participants on opening night, along with MAGIC’s Christopher Griffin. The winner will be revealed online after the show.

FN PLATFORM in the Las Vegas Convention Center, South Hall, Lower Level, celebrates opening night Aug. 18 with a cocktail party and live performance by Las Vegas band Monroy in the FN Café from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Among the happenings at the show:

• New brands include Chiara Ferragni, Freda Salvador, Jinny Kim, Capodarte and Pretty Ballerinas.

• Chinese Laundry will bring the newly crowned Miss USA Nia Sanchez, a Nevada native, to its booth (#81832) on Aug. 18 from 2 to 2:30 p.m. From 2:30 • 3 p.m., she will participate in a blogger Q&A in FNP’s Blogger Command Center at the front of the show floor.

• Returning is the Pensole Footwear Design Academy (in the Pensole Booth #82600), a competition in which students from around the world pair up with top sneaker brands; the winner will be revealed at the show.

• WSA (LVCC North Hall) will present the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, or FIDM, Footwear Scholarship design winners in the Junior/Contemporary and Evening/Fantasy categories at the front of the show floor.

• Marie Claire editors will be back, walking the floor and featuring their picks on the wall of their space at the front of the FN PLATFORM show floor.


On display for the first time in the U.S. are 7-foot-tall shoe sculptures — similar to the decorated cows that populated Manhattan in 2000 — made and painted by Mexican artists to promote the country’s footwear design and production.

Placed throughout the Las Vegas Convention Center in FNP and WSA, the works in the program are by sculptors Carlo Torre, Jose Luis Santelices, Rosario Rozas, Alejandro Garnica, Javier Villallobos, Salvador Bernal, Oscar Gonzalez and Filiberto Torres and painters Monica Jimenez, Michelle Mena, Antonio Ehrenzweig, Alejandro Lopez, Carlo Pez, Jose Luis Pescador, Catalina Ochoa, Isabel Fernandez Avaria, Dirse Tovar, Bertha Rodriguez, Pili Orozco, Ingrid Rosas, Yolanda Arena and Mary Carmen Aranda.

CURVEXPO unfurls its West Coast show CurveNV on Aug. 18 and 19 at The Venetian hotel, in the Toscana, San Polo and Murano Ballrooms.

Among the new brands showing this season are Babajaan Collection, Beach Bunny, Beach Glam, Bikini Lab, Blue Maou, Cielo Rosso, Double Scoop, Elizabeth Jane, Kate Spade, Kix’ies Thigh Highs, Knicker Luxe, Korokora, Lucky Brand, Maya Swimwear, Mia Piuma, Nine West, Orlebar Brown, Proenza Schouler, Roser Samon Promise, Sant and Abel, Sermija Lingerie, Sweetly Inked, The Muse Lingerie and Tommy Hilfiger.

As usual, retailers receive complimentary breakfast both mornings, and on the first night of the show, wine and cheese beginning at 5 p.m.


This month, OffPrice marks its 40th show. Launching in 1995 at the Debbie Reynolds Hotel with 24 exhibitors, the show now takes up the entire lower level of the Sands Expo (Hall G) with more than 500 wholesaler and jobber exhibitors representing 1,200 booths of apparel, accessories and footwear. Retailers can source merchandise at up to 70 percent below wholesale costs, along with immediate shipping. Buyers who place orders on the show floor can often have the apparel at their stores a week later.

In fact, the OffPrice Cash & Carry section has grown so large — 70 vendors — it moved to the Venetian Ballrooms in February, for a combined total of 130,000 square feet of show floor space.

The show draws retailers from all 50 states and anticipates about 1,000 international attendees from Africa, Asia, Canada, the Caribbean, Central America, Europe, Puerto Rico and South America.

The 15 companies exhibiting this season that have been at OffPrice since 1995 will be recognized at reception on Aug. 17 from 6 to 8 p.m., in the Galileo Ballroom. The reception is open to all attendees and features live entertainment from the band Mr. & Mrs. Smith, drinks and appetizers.

Buyers can show their OffPrice badge for complimentary shuttles to LVCC and Mandalay Bay (MAGIC), and Rio (WWIN) on Aug. 18 and 19 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.


The Stitch show (formerly known as Moda) has grown in its number of designers by 30 percent this season from last August. New designers and brands at the show include: Fashionlink, Elm, Lilith/Lunn, Joan Vass, Subtle Luxury, Sita Murt, Paperwhite and Lisa Todd.

Organizers BJI Fashion Group, also responsible for AccessoriesTheShow and MRketLV in Las Vegas, will throw an after party for its shows on Aug. 19 at Lavo lounge in The Palazzo. Complimentary admission with badge and one-hour open bar from 11 p.m. to midnight.

AccessoriesTheShow, Stitch and MRketLV will again be part of Modern Assembly at the Sands Expo/Venetian hotel.

Besides the three BJI Fashion Group shows, Liberty, Capsule and Agenda round out the six shows that are collectively promoting themselves to attract 15,000 attendees and 2,250 designers.

New designers at ATS include Johnny Loves June, Konplott, Ivi Jewelry, Samantha House Jewelry, An Old Soul and Day and Mood.


The PGA Fashion & Demo Experience, formerly known as PGA Expo, returns to the Venetian hotel with 48 women’s brands among its 200-plus golf and lifestyle apparel and accessories exhibitors on the fifth floor of the hotel conference center.

The latest spring trends will parade down the runway on Aug. 19 at 5 p.m. in a presentation on the show floor, emceed by Bailey Mosier, the award-winning writer, host, producer and editor for the Golf Channel.

Immediately following the show is an opening night reception from 5:30 to 7 p.m., during which booths will be open while attendees enjoy complimentary drinks and appetizers, as they take their best swing — or swig.


Nearly 250 brands across the men’s, women’s, lifestyle, footwear and accessories categories convene at Capsule Las Vegas, in the Venetian hotel (as part of the Modern Assembly family).

The show also features cash and carry and sundries sections. Its blog, We Are the Market, highlights cool new women’s exhibitors such as Portland, Ore.-based brand Houseline, Canadian-Japanese-inspired line Seven Thirty One, DIG denim and Brooklyn-based jewelry line Species by Thousands.


WomensWear in Nevada (WWIN) bows at Rio Las Vegas Convention Center on Aug. 18 for a four-day run featuring 2,000 brands across traditional, contemporary, misses’, petite, plus and tall apparel categories. Accessories include footwear, hats, bags, jewelry, belts and scarves. Billed as one-stop shopping for women’s wear buyers, WWIN is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday.

The show also offers free shuttle service between WWDMAGIC and KIDShow.
