J. Barbour & Sons has taken control of three stores it opened in partnership with men’s retailer Peter Elliot.

Starting today, the company best known as a purveyor of English countryside style will take over the Barbour by Peter Elliot doors in Manhattan, Boston and Ardmore, Pa.

Terms were not disclosed. The stores will be renamed Barbour.

“After a six-year partnership and a long-term relationship, it’s part of Barbour’s strategy to acquire and control its own retail operations,” said Tom Hooven, general manager of Barbour Inc., North America.

The move marks a shift in strategy for the English brand, which opened its first cobranded door in 2003, followed by the two other Peter Elliot locations and a fourth store in Portland, Maine, which was opened by retailer David Wood. Barbour by David Wood will continue to operate independently.

In addition to the three cobranded Barbour stores, Peter Elliot operates a flagship on Madison Avenue and a men’s and boy’s store on Lexington Avenue in Manhattan.
