Welcome back Barneys.
On Monday, Barneys New York will open its Chelsea store, officials told WWD, marking a nostalgic return to the neighborhood where the company was founded. The day before the opening — Valentine’s Day — Barneys will stage a friends and family preview at the 55,000-square-foot store, on the site of the original Barneys, at 101 Seventh Avenue between 16th and 17th Streets.
Barneys was first opened in 1923 by Barney Pressman. The site was vacated in 1997 after Barneys opened its Madison Avenue flagship, and it was converted into a Loehmann’s that shut down in February 2014.
