PARIS — The consolidation of beauty retailers continues in France.
Beauty Success and Passion Beauté — France’s fourth- and sixth-largest selective perfumery groups, respectively — on Wednesday said they have created an alliance, called Beauty Alliance France.
The new entity is to negotiate business conditions with brands and trade-marketing plans for both retail entities — giving them much-needed critical mass against other perfumery behemoths that keep gaining in strength.
Beauty Success is France’s largest independent franchised selective perfumery chain, while Passion Beauté is its biggest grouping of independent perfumeries. Beauty Alliance France will be co-run by their respective heads, Philippe Georges and Jean Pierre Dry.
Together, Beauty Success and Passion Beauty command more than 10 percent of the French beauty market, “an indispensable threshold,” Beauty Alliance said in a statement.
Specifically, the new entity is expected to rank fourth in the French market with 11 percent market share this year.
It will be the largest independent grouping in the channel with 450 perfumeries and 400 beauty institutes. Altogether, it employs 2,400 people and generates sales of 330 million euros, or $417.9 million at current exchange.
The big keep getting bigger.
In February of this year, Germany’s Douglas Group finalized its deal to take over the French Nocibé perfumery chain. It created the largest perfumery chain in France doorswise and the second-largest in sales.
