NEW YORK — Bergdorf Goodman will begin a series of “Right from the Runway” events with designers making their collections available for pre-order just days after their fall 2016 presentations during New York Fashion Week.
The schedule, which starts Thursday, features such brands as Altuzarra, Brandon Maxwell, Cushnie et Ochs, Jason Wu, Michael Kors, Monse, Prabal Gurung and Sally LaPointe.
“Everyone’s talking about immediate gratification — so we’ve invited several of our designers to come to Bergdorf Goodman in the days immediately after the shows and let our customers touch and feel the collection and make their selections for the season ahead,” said Joshua Schulman, president, Bergdorf Goodman and NMG International.
The schedule is as follows:
• Brandon Maxwell will be at Bergdorf’s fourth floor from noon to 4 p.m. on Thursday, showing his debut spring 2016 collection, alongside his fall 2016 collection.
• Jason Wu and Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia of Monse will be on the third floor on Feb. 25 from 1 to 5 p.m.
• Joseph Altuzarra, Michael Kors and Sally LaPointe will be on the third floor on Feb. 26 from 1 to 5 p.m.
• Carly Cushnie and Michelle et Ochs of Cushnie et Ochs and Prabal Gurung will be on the third floor on Feb. 29 from 1 to 5 p.m.
The initiative is the latest development in the rush to take the runway straight to the consumer and is a blend of the longstanding designer personal appearance at a store and a trunk show. But while it is similar to what Moda Operandi does online in terms of offering consumers the chance to pre-order from the next season’s collections, this appears to be one of the first times the service has been offered in a brick-and-mortar retailer so soon after the shows.
