The Bon-Ton Stores Inc. said Tuesday it has elected not to renew store leases for two sites, one in the West Manchester Mall and the other its Elder-Beerman store in the Northwest Mall.
The West Manchester site is in York, Penn., while the Northwest Mall location is in Dayton, Ohio. Bon-Ton said the leases end in January for the store in Pennsylvania and in February for the Elder Beerman store. Bon-Ton said store closing costs are not expected to be material.
Bud Bergren, president and chief executive officer, said, “The company continually reviews the performance of its assets; as a result of these reviews, we made the decision to close the aforementioned stores.”
The ceo said the firm was looking forward to the opening of two new stores on Nov. 9, one a Carson’s store in the Markland Mall in Kokomo, Ind., and the other a Herberger’s store in the Southdale Center in Edina, Minn.
The affected store associates — 52 at the West Manchester Mall store and 56 at the Elder Beerman site — will be offered opportunities to interview for available posts at other York Bon-Ton or Dayton Elder Beerman stores.
