Melissa Dietz has joined Boyds Philadelphia in the new position of director of business development. Dietz, who was with Neiman Marcus in King of Prussia, Pa., for 16 years, will work to expand the client base at the Philadelphia specialty store as it seeks to enhance its position in the luxury retail sector.
Kent Gushner, president of Boyds, said Dietz’s hire fits in with the retailer’s continued “investment in the in-person shopping experience. Her vast experience, proven success at major fashion retailers and strong connectivity to the community will greatly benefit Boyds and, more importantly, our clients.”
Dietz said she was drawn to Boyds because of its “steadfast commitment to both designer fashion retail in Philadelphia and to the highest levels of customer service that have been passed down for four generations.”
She is a native Philadelphian and has worked for retailers in the city including Nan Duskin and Saks Fifth Avenue as well as Neiman’s.
Boyds was founded in 1938 by Russian immigrants Alexander, Albert and Ben Gushner as a cigar and sundry shop that eventually added men’s shirts. Kent Gushner is the fourth generation of the family to operate the business. Boyds, which got into the high-end women’s business 12 years ago, is in the midst of a $10 million renovation that includes a recently opened luxury women’s department.
