Burlington Stores' Tom Kingsbury.

Tom Kingsbury is going to be recognized for something other than his retail skills.

The president, chief executive officer and chairman of Burlington Stores Inc. has been named a 2019 “Father of the Year” Honoree. He will receive his award at the 78th annual Father of the Year Awards at the New York Hilton Midtown hotel on June 13. Proceeds from the luncheon will once again be donated to Save the Children’s U. S. Programs and Advocacy.

The father of four and grandfather of five joined Burlington as president and ceo in 2008 and was named chairman of the board in 2014. Under his leadership, the off-price retailer, which operates nearly 700 stores, posted $6.1 billion in revenue as of fiscal 2017. Before joining Burlington, Kingsbury was with Kohl’s and Filene’s/Kaufmann’s.

“It is an honor to recognize a father like Tom Kingsbury, whose unwavering passion for his family and community serve as an inspiration for many who have the pleasure to know him and his work,” said Dan Orwig, president and ceo of The Father’s Day/Mother’s Day Council. “With more than 40 years of industry experience, Mr. Kingsbury is a retail veteran with unparalleled experience and unique insights into the industry’s challenges, opportunities and operations.”

Kingsbury is personally active in a number of philanthropic causes including JDRF, National Center for Learning Disabilities, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Burlington as a company supports blood cancer research, provides coats to those in need and toys to children suffering from life-threatening illnesses.
