NEW YORK — Calvin Klein is considering a retail space at 654 Madison Ave. here, near Barneys New York, according to reports circulating Monday.
The space, which is on the northwest corner of Madison Avenue and 60th Street, is the home of the Manufacturers Traders & Trust Co.
The bank is the owner of the building. The sturcture consists of a 5,000-square-foot ground floor and several 6,000-square-foot upper floors. The bank would reportedly relocate.
“You really can make a 20,000-square-foot statement, and it’s a one-tenant building, which designers like,” said one realtor.
The bank site shares the block with Barneys New York, which is at 660 Madison Ave.
Klein, through a spokeswoman, stated, “We are always looking at opportunities and we’re looking at a number of locations,” adding, “but as of right now, we don’t have anything to announce.”
As noted, Klein is reportedly negotiating a retail site in Beverly Hills at 434 North Rodeo Drive, which formerly housed Elizabeth Arden.
According to sources, that Calvin Klein store would be owned and operated by Yousef Tar, a Los Angeles-based retailer who owns 26 Bernini men’s wear stores, primarily in the West. Four of Bernini stores are on Rodeo Drive.
