Century 21 Department Store, continuing to expand its footprint in the U.S., last week opened an 85,000-square-foot store in the huge and productive Sawgrass Mills shopping center in Sunrise, Fla.

Sawgrass Mills, operated by the Simon Property Group, marks Century 21’s 12th location and first in Florida.

“We’ve been a destination for domestic and international travelers who seek designer brands at incredible values, so naturally Sawgrass Mills was a perfect fit for us,” said Raymond Gindi, co-chief executive officer of Century 21 Department Store, the family-run, midsized off-pricer. He said the new store, which opened Dec. 16, is in proximity to “prime tourism areas like Fort Lauderdale, Miami and Palm Beach” and will attract tourists and locals.

The store sells women’s, men’s, shoes, accessories, fine jewelry, children’s, cosmetics and home, and has by-appointment fashion stylists. Gindi also noted that store sells vintage designer handbags, accessories, jewelry and watches through its collaboration with LXR&Co.

The 55-year-old company has over the past couple of years opened stores in Philadelphia, Green Acres, N.Y., and City Point, in downtown Brooklyn. Additionally, Century 21 experimented this summer with a pop-up in Santa Monica, Calif., in partnership with WithMe. It could be a prelude to opening permanent stores in California. On tap: stores in the Cross County Shopping Center in Yonkers, N.Y., in fall 2017, and subsequently at the American Dream retail and entertainment complex under development in East Rutherford, N.J.

Pop-ups in such major markets as Washington, D.C., Boston and Chicago are being considered.
